This article discusses Baldwin having moved to St Helens before or after selling Hoole Hall. Where did this information of Baldwin living in St Helens come from, or is it assumed through association with John Smith? Thanks.

St Helens is from the reference "Balwin and Steamboats" - the link is on the page under sources. The Liverpool Chronicle says Prescot. There is more on Hoole Hall here:https://hoolehistoryheritagesociety.miraheze.org/wiki/Hoole_Hall. A little more in Graces Guide: https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Sankey_Canal

Thanks. Found what I think is his burial record at Prescot Cemetery. I visited today (14/08/2024) but I think most of the graves older than 1890 are either lost to the elements, removed, or buried. For the record I think - although am not certain - this is T Baldwin:

Burial: 12 Jul 1804 St Mary the Virgin, Prescot, Lancashire
   Thomas Baldwin, Gentleman -
   Abode: Prescot
   Register: Burials 1766 - 1809, Page 334, Entry 4
