User talk:Jack Phoenix

Hi Jack,

I was going to remove it myself (as an IP professional (Patent Attorney) on the point of retiring I should be able to spell "plagiarism") - so no problem with that. What was particularly annoying about this was that Geni.com didn't bother to do anything at all when I properly notified them of the quite blatant copyright infringement (before my recent illness I did this for a living, so I know how to do it right). So I then contacted their user directly, who whined a lot, but did remove the infringement from Geni.com.

Unfortunately, this is not the only instance I've had of material being re-used wholesale by others without any request or reference. As one possible future plan (if my health improves further) is to move from your "free" service to your paid-for hosting service - with some Chester-focussed advertising (and the profits to charity - our UK "Coastguard"), I needed to put a stop to it and didn't want to go down the 17USC501 route against a pivate individual. They only way to contact her was via her "talk" page on Geni.com - she didn't like that either!

I don't mind people re-using my content for Wikipedia (with a suitable reference), but wholesale copying of text and images onto a commercial site isn't on, especially when someone tries to pass it off as their own work - and will land the commercial site in very hot water.

So thanks for attending to this and keep-up the good work at your end too!

Regards

Peter

Hi Jack,

Thanks for deleting the spam. I've been a bit ill (the reason why I got the early retirement) and unable to use the computer these last few weeks.

Hi Peter,
You're welcome! Keeping your wiki spam-free is what we do. Often these spambots manage to hit multiple wikis, so when you start following the trail they've left, turns out that they've attempted to trash multiple wikis. Combating spam issues is a neverending game of whack-a-mole, but we at ShoutWiki go into great lengths to keep your wiki spam-free; in fact, it's one of the many reasons for choosing ShoutWiki. :) --Jack PhoenixShoutWiki Staff (Contact) 15:15, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
