Life

David Mason was a member of the Chester City Counncil Archaeology team and built up a particular expertise in Roman and Anglo-Saxon archaeology. He discovered the first Anglo-Saxon buildings in Chester during excavations in Lower Bridge Street in 1974-76. He later became an independent consultant and researcher. He undertook many excavations in Chester since the 1960's. He became county archaeologist for County Durham.
